Well that sucked….
Don’t get me wrong, I was thrilled when I got a call Friday night asking if I wanted to shoot the GT vs UNC football game that Saturday. I’m just heartbroken as a GT fan after watching our guys go up 21-0 in the first half, only to fall 38-31 at the end. It was crushing.
The offense moved with ease on its first three possessions and the defense held strong as well. But then one of our top defensive lineman was ejected for targeting and from then on, the tide changed.
No longer facing pressure in the pocket, the UNC quarterback was a one man wrecking crew who carved up the GT defense, mostly with his legs. And as the season has been so far, the GT offense fell apart, no longer able to convert those 3rd or 4th and shorts that were the staple of our offense for so many years.
It’s going to be a long season for Tech fans. Hopefully we get some more thrills and the team finds a way to turn things around for the rest of the season.
As a photographer, it’s difficult to shoot something as fast paced and intense as football without practice. It’s been almost a year since the last game I shot. I felt as the game went on that the rust started chipping off and I remembered what to look for and how to position myself better. I did forget how much I loved shooting these games though. As an alumni and an avid football fan, it’s a doubled blessing to photograph my team. Hopefully next time, I can shoot a great game and a great win.
